Hi Andrew,
fished Bank Top today, 30th May. Had a wonderful day. It was a bit cold and blustery but the river was in good fettle, low and gin clear. Not much of a hatch although fish did rise in the afternoon to a brief hatch of mayfly. Took one fish of 13", a lovely fat wild brownie that really scrapped. Took a brown klinkhammer in a slow deep pool. Saw two other brownies at least as big. One I spooked the other followed a nymph almost until it was next to me before turning away. I missed another on a mayfly emerger but I couldn't see how big it was. Also saw a monster Grayling, at least 2lbs. I think it was a male. It was sulking at the bottom of one of the really deep bends. I almost trod on it as I waded upstream. Saw a few smaller fish towards the top of the beat.
Thank you for all your work setting up this scheme. I will be back soon to try another beat or two.
Cheers, Kris

Hi Andrew,
I fished a beat of the Peak Passport scheme today and thought you might like some feedback. I fished the Windy Arbor Bridge beat this morning - GRHE & PTN. all takes were on PTN. landed one brown (17cm ish), lost three smaller fish, missed well over a dozen takes but couldn't make contact with them. The fish I landed almost hooked itself! Fish moving in three pools only - weir pool, pool with girders/large metal containers & pool below the gabions. No evidence of fish anywhere else.
Regards,
Clive

Hi Andrew,
I bumped into you, a few months back now, at the shop in Ashbourne
when you were delivering the new Peak Passport handbooks.
Well, I was then, well still am, a rip-roaring novice. I had just
joined Errwood Fly Fishing Club as I never thought I would get to
have, or afford the privilege of fishing for wild brownies on the
brooks, streams and rivers of Derbyshire, Staffordshire Moorlands and
Peak District.
Today I visited Beat 6, Windy Arbour Bridge and had an encounter with
my first wild brown trout. Not a monster I grant you, but to me, it
was the best thing sinse.....well I won't go into details.
Having been cruising the fishy forums and blogs I appreciate that all
this fantastically accessible wild fishing is hugly down to you. So,
from me, a 51 year old novice who lives in the heart of the
Staffordshire Moorlands, THANK YOU!

Andi,
Yes, you know I started my flyfishing since May 2010! (I have never done it in Japan)
I could not catch any fish for my first 4 times of fly fishing at peak beat mostly with "Bank top", which is because of my lack of capablity for fly fishing, not because of the quality of beat. I then started catching 4 times in a row including last week. (1 or 2 fishes every time) I think I now understand how to catch them. I know the fish in peak district beat will not attack fly if they see us in their eye, which is different from some fisherys where we need to pay expensive money. I have never fished in fishery in UK since my objective is to refresh in great nature.... even though fishing is very tough sometimes.
My objective at this moment is to fish in all beats, and to catch wild brown trout in all of them! That's about it !
Cheers.

Dear Andrew,
First, many thanks for running the Peak Passport scheme. I live in Buxton, but haven't a membership of any clubs, so I'm very glad someone took the initiative to do something like this.
I fished the Froghall beat this evening. I'm writing because I forgot to put the catch return in the box.
Not that it matters: for the record, I caught nothing. I did miss four fish with strong takes (small fish) -- two on nymphs (GRHE and a mayfly nymph) and two on Caddis (size 20). I spooked a lot of fish and saw many rises. So there seems to be a healthy population of smallish fish in that beat, despite low water. Apologies for forgetting to post the catch return.
The cattle seem to be making a bit of a mess of some of the banks, but I suppose there isn't much to be done about that.
Decent hatch of olives, too.
Thanks
Derek

Hi Andrew,
I am having a cracking time exploring the beats on the Peak Passport. I cant thank you enough for making all this happen.
I had a corker of a session at Hulme End last Saturday with a lot of activity in the pool at the bend on the lower section, and landed myself this beauty of a Manifold wild brownie of about 10". It snaffled a black Klink. I had a great grin on my face. A few moments support back in the water and it swam off like a torpedo!
All the best,
Pete March
Here is Pete's torpedo!
